Four Topeka youths survive railroad crash in North Lawrence
At 1 45 this morning an eastbound Golden State Limited struck a 1939 Dodge sedan at the Third street crossing near the Union Pacific depot. Norman Lewis 23 driver and owner and Freddie Hickman 21 Ernest Turner 17 and William Simon 19 were thrown from the car with minor injuries. Simon remained in the wreckage. The crossing semaphore standard was knocked over. The youths went to a doctor for abrasions and bruises and returned to Topeka by bus.
