No. 1 disability in war toll hear loss rising in troops
US troops return from Iraq and Afghanistan with epidemic rates of permanent hearing loss and tinnitus. Nearly 70,000 of 1.3 million service members have disability for tinnitus and over 58,000 for hearing loss, prompting renewed protection efforts. Explosions and sudden firefights, plus underuse or misapplication of ear protection, drive the rise.
