Brazil will restart payments on its foreign bonded debt, Finance Minister Arthur de Souza Costa said. Terms will be released tomorrow in Washington Paris and London. Brazil previously declared a moratorium in 1937 and 1939 partial payments were made to American holders.
Mrs Elsa Brandstrom Ulich of Cambridge Mass will give an address in Fraser on Monday at 4 o clock for the Finnish relief fund. She is a Harvard professor’s wife and daughter of Russia’s former Swedish minister. Proceeds go to the fund. Dr Ernst F Pihlblad of Lindsborg College is state chairman.
Detroit March 8 a girl who jumped from a 17th floor downtown hotel room was identified as Geraldine Kenyon 28 of Pontiac Michigan formerly married to Bourane. She used the names Johanna Stoddard and J Stoddard and left a note to Williams Paley of CBS professing love.
Nearly eighty crew members of the Queen Elizabeth quit at Greenock on learning a trans Atlantic voyage to New York was planned. One staying crewman said they feared the hazards and had believed they were merely taking a routine Greenock to Southampton cruise of about 700 miles along the British coast.
The British steamer Counsellor, 5068 tons, was sunk by enemy action off the northwest coast of Britain. All crew landed at an unnamed port. The Counsellor was part of Charente Steam Ship Company’s fleet servicing West Indies routes.

Rueben Brown a 21 year old University of Kansas sophomore is charged with second degree burglary and grand larceny in a February 18 robbery of Holyfield Music. He was arrested on campus and $1468.50 worth of instruments have been recovered except two missing bells. Police report Brown pawned the items and described his detailed account of how a musician actor sought to borrow money on horns to buy fuel. His preliminary hearing is set for March 20 and bond was set at $1000 though not posted.
Shanghai reports Chinese officials in Chungking jubilant after the United States announces a 20 million dollar loan to finance imports from American sources. A Japanese embassy spokesman criticizes the loan, calling it not a friendly act, while downplaying fears of retaliation.
The German merchant ship Uruguay of 4846 tons was scuttled by its crew after being intercepted by a British warship in the North Atlantic. All crew members were saved. The ship, operated by Hamburg South American Navigation Co, had left Pernambuco Brazil for an undisclosed destination according to a February 11 report.
The average of 60 stocks rose to 50.1 yesterday from 50.0. The index tracked broader market gains, with several components contributing to the small advance.

A large crowd gathered on Massachusetts Street for the annual Spring Window Unveiling and Style Show. Over 500 people entered the grand prize guessing contest valuing merchandise in 40 merchants windows. Miss Helen Bartz won 25 dollars with a guess near the total value of 10 416 25, the actual value 10 406 97. Mrs Cochran won three prizes in the 72 contest pool. The air ministry announced a German bomber was shot down today off North Scotland. It marked the second victim of British forces off Scotland in two days and the 45th on or near the coast since the war began.
