Lions rally past Gardner-Edgerton in somber 6A substate win
Lawrence High boys basketball defeated Gardner-Edgerton 62 to 45 in the first round of Class 6A sub state at LHS. The win came as assistant coach Kermit Aldridge, head junior varsity coach, was moved to hospice care amid his battle with a rare cancer. Coach Mike Lewis told the team Aldridge’s condition worsened after the game. Price Morgan praised Aldridge as a mentor who supported him between football and basketball. Aldridge has coached four years at LHS and attended a Feb. 21 home game.

Loneker leads Free State past Derby in sub-state opener
Keith Loneker celebrated his 18th birthday with 29 points on 10-for-10 shooting and 9-for-11 from the line as Free State High defeated Derby High 74-60 to open sub-state play. The senior, bound for Baker University, controlled the game with scoring, rebounding, and precise passes, with significant help from teammates as FSHS stayed alive.
