Senate to debate confirming Kansas Supreme Court justices
After more than a year a proposed constitutional amendment to require Senate confirmation of Kansas Supreme Court justices will be debated Wednesday. Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt said he planned to bring up the proposal, which had 28 sponsors last February, one more than the two thirds needed. The plan would add Senate approval before a justice could serve, aligning Kansas with seven merit selection states. If ratified by voters, the measure would amend the Kansas Constitution following legislative passage.
