The primary will select the top six vote getters for the general election where voters may choose up to three candidates. Write in votes are not allowed in the primary. A water bond needs majority approval from voters. Candidate bios name Jerry Albertson Albertson and nine others with occupations and ties to Lawrence.
KU officials and the Iranian Students Association plan a meeting with Del Shankel to discuss the alleged February 25 beating of an Iranian student near Potter Lake. Threats against reporters and faculty adviser Una Forer were reported as part of a wider protest and tensions with SAVAK allegations linger.
Thirteen contenders include Hoyswife a former physical therapist and Bob Davis-Davis a former police officer. The group lists KU degrees and multiple children in Lawrence schools. Five remain to answer questions at 7 30 p m Wednesday at South Junior High for the LEA to decide whom to support.
Voters across Douglas County face polling place changes for Tuesday's primary. District 497 residents vote at Clinton Township Hall or Wakarusa Township Hall, while Grant, Leavenworth and Jefferson counties use Grant School for board seats. Spokesmen for Kansas quarter horse and greyhound breeders urged the Senate committee to back a constitutional amendment for parimutuel wagering on the 1978 ballot. A late meeting with the Douglas County Commission will decide if statutory tax funds can finance part of the 1.8 million project.
City commissioners plan to officially allocate 1.5 million dollars in Community Development and revenue sharing funds at a Tuesday night session. They may approve a water contract with Baldwin to buy treated water from Lawrence and set a 7 pm meeting in the First National Bank Tower on Massachusetts Street.
The Census Bureau reports a steady migration of seniors to western and southern states. From the decade start to Sunday figures show Hawaii, Alaska, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Florida up over 30 percent. The South rises 22.1 percent and the West 20.5 percent while other regions grow under 10 percent.
