AP report recounts a puzzling baseball rules question raised in Florida by Harry Simons and secretary Bill Manley. With runners on first and third and one out, a bunted or fly ball play could score the runner before the third out, prompting debate over whether a fourth out must be forced to keep the run from counting. The discussion reflects league- and committee-driven efforts to clarify timing of outs and runs, amid broader college and professional notes.

Veterans urged to prove marital status for GI training aid
Sherwin Derby of the Veterans Administration said veterans eligible for government subsistence for GI training or education must furnish evidence of marital status to qualify for higher subsistence.
