Kansan legislature passes multi million dollar appropriations
The Kansas House approved two major bills. One allocates 2,675,000 from the educational building tax for state college construction over two years. The other designates 2,070,000 from the general fund to run the women's industrial farm and state prisons for 1946 and 1947. Both measures passed with little opposition. The Senate debated but kept a loophole exempting small farm cooperatives after tax. The tax bill would tax cooperatives on undistributed patron income after 65 days. Senator MacGregor reported only three of 11 favored raising the gasoline tax for postwar highways.
