After an exchange of words the women fired. Mrs Tucker opened fire first and Mrs Moore fled unharmed though her clothing was pierced twice. The final shot struck Madden.
Senator Spooner and Bacon announced an agreement on an amendment to the Isle of Pines treaty. The island would be a separate province under Cuban law, granting local self government and representation in the Cuban congress when population warrants. The measure will be offered in the Senate during executive session.
