Community foundation awards $200000 in grants to 43 groups
The Douglas County Community Foundation will award about $200,000 from its community grant fund to 43 area groups, a roughly $50,000 rise from 2012 and the most grants since formation in 2000. Executive director Chip Blaser praises donor support and investment income for the increase, with the largest grant of about $10,300 to Independence Inc. for wheelchair lift vehicles. Two more gifts of $10,000 go to the Lawrence Schools Foundation for an electronic curriculum pilot.
