Four Schools Tie for Top Ratings at DeSoto Drama Festival
Four schools earned top ratings in DeSoto’s Little Seven League drama festival. Baldwin led with I ratings, joined by Hitchhiker Spring Hill Special Guest Tin a Fool Picnic Bear, plus I ratings for DeSoto Eudora BalconY Scene Gardner Death of the Hired Man. Judging was by Mrs. Nola Ring of Kansas University. Next, seven schools compete March 17 at KU for district honors with reads and speeches in addition to plays. Baldwin's cast earning I ratings included Bob Ford Mary Kay Walker David Sherlock Gary Wigle Bob Dyer Nancy Bell Storme Anderson Dottie Robertson Marla Ferguson. David Sherlock is district state manager. Mike Jones is sound technician. Baldwin will also enter reading contestants Dottie Robertson Linda Schmidt.

Fourth Generation Now Heads Sales at Lawrence Paper Co
Alan Hill becomes head of sales and service and field supervision for the Jayhawk Fibre Form Division of Lawrence Paper Co. He is the fourth generation affiliated full time, tracing to founder J. D. Bowersock. His grandfather Irving Hill is board chairman, his father Justin Hill is president, and brothers Steve and David have worked at the plant. Justin Jr. is a Lawrence High student with part time work at the plant.

Jayhawk FFA Members Enter East Central Farm Contest
Jayhawk FFA members from Lawrence High School competed in the East Central District farm mechanics contest at Eskridge on Monday. Local teams finished third in arc welding, fourth in farm shop tools, and first in soil conservation among eight schools. Individual rankings included Schmidt fourth in arc welding, Henry sixth, Hornberger seventh, Kampschroeder fifth, and Bryant tenth in farm shop tools, with Henry second and Hornberger third in soil conservation. Coaches were Roy Cropp and Walter Gehlbach.

Kansas approves 401.5 million for 1963 state budget

Powers U2 mission details surface in CIA report

City commission approves street parking bans and traffic controls
City commissioners approved parking restrictions on several north side streets including Eighth from New Hampshire to Connecticut and Tenth from Tennessee to Kentucky. They also backed turning restrictions on Thirteenth Street from Tennessee to Elmwood and will place stop signs on routes into Thirteenth Street. A study of congestion on Maine Street and Illinois blocks was ordered. Dr John MacCarthy requested resident only parking on 12th from Indiana to Mississippi, but officials noted such limits cannot be enforced on a public street.
