Home Depot jobs draw crowds in tight labor market
In a city with 3.5 percent unemployment, Home Depot draws about 100 daily applications and even fills interviews in the parking lot. Cheryl White of the Lawrence Workforce Center says under employed and retired workers seek part time roles, while Shelly Schumaker notes many apply for part time positions with health insurance and stock ownership. The store on 31st and Iowa offers 8 to 5 weekdays and 8 to noon Saturdays, with wages around 12 dollars an hour and higher for specialized roles.
