Kansas eyes licenses for private sector to teach in schools
Kansas education officials propose rules allowing private sector experts to receive licenses to teach in public schools on full or part time. The plan, aimed at boosting technical education, would let industry certified or experienced individuals teach after verification. The changes go to the State Board of Education in April with hearings planned before 2014-2015 staffing decisions.

Debates Over Common Core and Data Collection in Kansas
Core Foundation funded groups backing Common Core while critics claim it is a federal initiative from the start. Kansas pursued Race to the Top grants in 2009 and adopted CCSS in 2010 to seek No Child Left Behind waivers in 2011. Concerns rise about data collection totals up to 400 data points per student under the National Education Data Model. Kansas officials deny participation in intrusive data programs and say data remains with schools and the state ED. Marianne Perie of Kansas University asserts tests will not collect personal identifiers.
