Winter storm in Missouri causes nine highway deaths
A winter storm dumping up to eight inches of snow across Missouri triggered numerous accidents and at least nine highway deaths. DeSoto resident Mack Ayers, 56, died when his car slid off a Jefferson County road and hit an embankment. The storm caused pileups on I-44 and multiple slideoffs, with three fatalities on U.S. Highway 60 near Willow Springs, including 10-year-old Jerrad Bennett of Willow Springs and Howard and Mary Wissman of Bourbon. The weather service warned of continuing snow bands moving into southern Illinois.
