Kansas lawmakers advance anti federal gun law measures and a school finance amendment
Kansas legislators push a series of conservative proposals including calls to arrest federal actors enforcing gun laws and a constitutional amendment to shield state court rulings from the school funding mandate. Bills would limit public funds for lobbying, require annual Kansas vs Wichita State basketball games, and bar local health departments from seeking national accreditation. A separate measure aims to delay renewable energy rules and condemn a UN climate policy, while a school finance amendment would let voters decide whether courts or the legislature set funding levels. The effort comes as a three-judge panel ordered a $440 million annual funding increase and as Gov. Brownback backs broader conservative reforms.
