Mansfield Edges Chaffee In Final Canvass After Provisional Ballots

In a countywide canvass the race narrowed to nine votes after adjusting a double count and discarding 15 ineligible provisional ballots. Mansfield led 536 to 527, with Chaffee conceding as both waited for final results. Mansfield plans modest fundraising and signs while focusing on tax and recycling issues for the April commission race.

Appraiser outlines valuation rise and rent hike talk

An appraiser explains countywide property values rose about 8 percent, similar to last year. Johnson cites five sale comparisons per property and notes possible 16 to 20 percent jumps for some accounts, with residents able to review sheets. appeals may occur if evidence supports the claim. Moody contemplates protest through the official process.

Appeals process outlines property value hearings and deadlines

Property owners must file the bottom portion of the valuation notice with the Appraiser's Office by March 30 and bring supporting documents to hearings. Hearings run 20 minutes starting March 19 in the county courthouse basement at 1100 Mass. About 1,600 hearings occurred last year affecting 5 percent of parcels, with roughly 45 percent resulting in value changes. For details call 832-5133.
