Equine Power Still Used for Plowing on Kansas Farms
Topeka Kansas Feb 26 The Associated Press reports that even as gasoline vehicles dominate transport on farms horses still plow more than tractors. Secretary J C Mohler of the state board of agriculture cites numbers showing 18.5 million acres remain to be plowed by work horses while tractors would handle 7.5 million acres in a 30 day period. Horses have declined in population and value since 1910 though mule numbers rose. Mohler argues Kansas remains well suited to horse breeding noting historic names and achievements in horse racing and breeding while urging continued investment in the industry.
