Wisconsin stage worker dies after folding floor collapse
Robert Pilkenton 28, a Lawrence resident, died Monday afternoon when floor panels weighing up to 175 pounds fell on him during dismantling after a country festival in Oshkosh Winnebago County. He was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center. The cause was blunt trauma to the head as crews attempted to balance stacked flooring. Stagepro president Jay Waller said the accident was not equipment related and OSHA is investigating. Eight other Stagepro employees were present. Pilkenton had worked four years for Stagepro which serves national events from its Lawrence base.

Lawmaker Kept Informed On Oz Site Cleanup Plan
Topeka legislator Rep. Annie Kuether voices concerns over the transfer of more than 9 000 acres near De Soto from the federal plant site to the Wonderful World of Oz theme park project. She will meet KDHE Secretary Clyde Graeber to review the consent order binding Oz to at least 40 million dollars for cleanup, aiming to avoid taxpayer costs if the developers fail to fulfill promises. The land transfer could occur next month, with the state then handing it to Oz. The project’s president Skip Palmer says work remains on schedule for a late summer completion.
