Silvester Falls Short in Javelin Meet Record Clash
In Provo Utah Silvester fell half an inch short of Cole's meet mark with 205-10 the old record set in 1967 by Gary Carlson. Mark Murro set a 284-3 javelin record beating Al Centello's 271-9 from 1960. Ryun quit the mile amid disappointment then explained staleness from too many races. He planned Europe meets with Anne and faced possible final races of the year. Kansas teammates fared better with Salb 65-3 and Wilhelm 62-14 in shot put and Whitley 26-4 in long jump as Beamon jumped 26-11.
