Secretary Quarles said the B47 medium jet bomber can penetrate any defense today to deliver an atomic attack. He spoke during a ceremony at the new Strategy Air Command base in Portsmouth New Hampshire, where two wings of B-47s will be based.

George Grant Myers 87 of Mc Louth died at home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of the Brethren in Mc Louth with burial there. Survived by four daughters Ethel Pearce Orville Calif Ione Myers Kansas City Mabel Webb Wilber Neb Myrtle King Nortonville two sons Kenneth Glasgow and Leonard Lawrence 27 grandchildren 16 great grandchildren. The first man made earth satellite is expected to weigh about 27144 pounds.
Jane Anderson, 20, of Clinton, daughter of Mr and Mrs Carter Anderson, joins Myrna Beth Shaner, 18, of Lecompton, as entrants in the Douglas County Farm Bureau Dairy Princess contest amid Dairy Month events. Anderson teaches in the Apple Pie District northwest of Lone Star and must be a single high school graduate ages 16 to 25.
Eight month old Mark Allen Kramer of Oskaloosa was struck in the head by a stray .22 bullet while on his father’s lap. He has undergone hospital care and is improving though the bullet remains in his head. A medical fund opened at First National Bank in Omaha to cover mounting costs.
A Kansas University Bureau report finds 2487 children involved in juvenile court in 1955. Of these 1856 faced delinquency charges and 631 were labeled dependent. Delinquents stemmed from 1700 families, dependents from 327. most delinquents were 14 or older, most dependents under nine. Fourteen percent were under one year old.
Dr Ruhe describes a Kel log grant enabling mobility of equipment across the KU center. The grant will provide lens centered lighting so the operator and camera share the same view. It aims to support endoscopy and other imaging techniques by transmitting pictures to a broad audience via TV. Fluoroscopy and microscopy could also be televised with the new setup.
A severe late night storm knocked down wires and damaged poles as Kansas Power and Light crews repaired outages. No injuries were reported though trees fell on homes and debris caused minor damage. Rain and thunder continued with more storms possible through Sunday as temps rose into the 90s.
BERLIN, William P. Lear, U S plane equipment maker, stated there was not even discussion of selling his products to the Russians during his Moscow visit. Lear flew in from Moscow in a private Cessna 310 and told reporters no trade talks occurred. A Soviet official offered a quip about tearing down the Iron Curtain.

An Aerobee Hi rocket blasted 163 miles above the earth in New Mexico to establish a new record for a single stage rocket. The previous mark, 158 miles, was set in 1954 by a Viking I during test firings in the International Geophysical Year program.
Vicki Rogers aged four, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Rogers of 633 Mississippi Street, remains in good condition at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after being struck by a car on June 15. The accident occurred on Ninth Street between Louisiana and Indiana.
In overlapped drunk driving proceedings, jurors found Henry Noble Welsh not guilty of a DWI charge while another panel failed to reach a verdict in the George Stevens case. Stevens is overseeing a November retrial, with Stevens’ incident dated November 25. Also noted is the sudden death of John Conrae Clark, 33, of Lincoln Street, at work in Fowler Shops at Kansas University after a heart attack.
