Lawrence Parks and Rec cooling sites open during heat wave
The city of Lawrence will open cooling sites at Community Building East and Holcom Park Recreation Center Sports Pavilion Lawrence and East Lawrence Recreation Center as temperatures rise into triple digits. A temporary North Lawrence site renamed Camp New Beginnings will offer cold water bottles. Union Pacific Depot will not operate this summer.

Lawrence summer lunch program runs weekdays at multiple sites
The Lawrence school district continues a free summer lunch program for ages 1-18 with meals onsite and a $5 adult fee. Sites include New York Woodlawn Sunset Hill Broken Arrow Holcom Park and the Lawrence Public Library with service times noon to 1 p.m. at most locations and 11 a.m. to noon at the library through Aug. 4. A Pinckney Playground Breakfast Playdate runs Fridays 9 to 9:30 a.m. No meals July 3 and 4 due to the holiday.
