Wheat harvest lines up as early yields look strong
Bill Rice near Baldwin City reports the 87 year old farmer expects yields around 50 bushels per acre on his land, calling this possibly the best wheat crop in decades. In Douglas County the harvest starts slowly due to recent rains and wet ground, with elevators noting good test samples but moisture delaying popularity on the ground. Local entities Baldwin City and Lawrence area elevators, along with Wes Hetherson and Chris He therington, reflect a mixed start and anticipation of sunnier weather to finish the crop.
