Nuclear chief says Nebraska plants safe amid Missouri River flood
NRC Chairman Gregory Jaczko visited Fort Calhoun and Cooper nuclear plants in eastern Nebraska as floodwaters from the Missouri River rose. He said both sites remain safe with pumps handling water and no immediate public health threat. Fort Calhoun faced a collapsed 8-foot berm and ongoing dry buffer restoration plans while Cooper sits at a higher elevation. The Corps forecasts river levels to stay high into August, with up to 10 feet over flood stage in parts of Missouri and Nebraska.
