Wet growing season cripples Kansas wheat harvest
In Douglas and surrounding counties farmers face a weather disaster as May and June rainfall shatters normal harvest. Lawrence records 7.32 inches in May and 9.12 inches in June, delaying cutting across 20 percent of state wheat. Local growers report high yields when cut, but moisture causes field delays, quality concerns, and uncertain grain markets.
