Delayed Debate Shifts 28-Year-Old Draft Deferments
Washington action delays the draft bill for ten days to allow more time for budget measures and the July 4th break. The shift affects men turning 28 by July 1, 1942, who would be deferred instead of automatically. The plan would give Roosevelt authority to reinstate work at strikes and resume defense production, while removing a Senate control on struck plants. A separate note: a $48,000 CCC garage contract in Kansas-Nebraska was awarded to Kingery Construction Company of Lincoln. Summer vacationers are reminded to renew subscriptions to the Journal-World.
