Missouri River gains navigable status to Kansas City
Kansas City June 28 The Missouri river between Kansas City and St Louis is officially added to inland waterways transportation in the Midwest. Secretary of War Hurley and engineers report an all year six foot channel from St Louis to Kansas City. Ceremony drew officials from Leavenworth, Atchison, St Joseph, Council Bluffs, Omaha with Ashburn and Weaver present. Hurley said barge transport will add ten cents per bushel of wheat and support railroads by shifting population and business inland. Travel clinics and schools from railway coaches noted in Ontario.
