Sentencing delayed in fentanyl overdose death case
Benjamin L. Mims 36 appeared in Douglas County District Court for a hearing on his plea to voluntary manslaughter and unlawful distribution of fentanyl connected to the 2021 fentanyl overdose death of 18 year old Mohamadi Issa Jr. in Lawrence. The sentencing was postponed after a presentence report showed extensive juvenile felonies, potentially increasing his sentence to the top end, prompting a request for review by defense attorney Dakota Loomis.
