Lawrence district remains in improvement status despite progress
Despite districtwide gains on assessment tests the Lawrence school district keeps the improvement designation for failing to meet adequate yearly progress standards for students with disabilities for two years. It must show two consecutive years of meeting standards to exit. This year the district set aside about $175 000 for professional development and related activities, 10 percent of federal funds for high free lunch student populations. The district will maintain an improvement plan approved by the Kansas State Department of Education as it trims budgets, forms task forces, and continues to address the achievement gap for students of color.
