Jefferson City June 27 Tony Vaughn Edward Raymond and Guo Ryan were hanged for the penitentiary escape attempt on November 34 1905. They died from strangulation not neck breaks. The crowd watched as Sheriff Scott triggered the trap at 9 32 AM. Raymond spoke briefly of breakfast and prayer before the execution.
In Uniontown Pennsylvania on June 27 the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad filed an equity suit seeking to void Pennsylvania two cent fare law and to permanently bar Fayette County from collecting penalties from the railroad under the act.
Park Hetzel and Oscar Cox press a claim that their work poll tax was paid in Topeka and cite supporters including Mr Saunders, then present five and ten dollar bills to back their statement. In Topeka, local figures doubt the tax claim while Cox contacts the city clerk to verify. Cox and Hetzel plan to study taxation at the law school in the fall.
M Robinson and G Ea Knight surveyed residents along the proposed road to Endora this morning urging attendance at a mass meeting at the Opera House Saturday. Citizens of Eudora largely support the project and farmers, busy with wheat harvest, plan to attend if able. The delegation reports a warm reception and optimism about the road’s outcome.
Harrisburg June 1 1907 the Democratic state convention adopted a platform centered on state issues and a pledge for the prosecution of those implicated in recent fiscal excesses. A resolutions vote consider Bryan’s 1908 nomination. Seibert demanded national matter emphasis but the resolution was laid on the table.
The varsity race at Gales Ferry Conn was postponed until evening due to rough water. An effort will be made to run the four oared and freshman races.
In Houston Va on June 27 Judge Barksdale ruled in the Loving murder trial that prosecution evidence aimed at discrediting Miss Loving’s account to her father would not be admitted. The hedge held the gill and Estes’ character not at issue and the truth of her story had no bearing on the case. Witness T. S. McGinnis testified Loving asked directions to Estes and showed no great excitement before the tragedy.
