Philip Morris to Acquire Nabisco for 14.9 Billion Deal
Philip Morris Cos. Inc owner of Kraft Foods announced a plan to buy Nabisco Holdings Corp for 14.9 billion dollars plus 4 billion in debt. Nabisco makes Ritz crackers Oreo cookies and Life Savers and is 80.6 percent owned by Nabisco Group of Parsippany New Jersey. The sale ends a bidding war with Danone and Cadbury Schweppes and includes a planned IPO of 20 percent of the new food company in early 2001.
