Mackey school alumni prepare for reunion decades after closing
Leavenworth County Mackey Grade School alumni and former teachers gather at Fall Leaf Farm in Linwood this Saturday for a reunion. More than 100 are expected to attend to recall a neighborhood school built in 1891, rebuilt after a fire, and closed in 1966. Attendees include former teacher Vivian Bowman and the school’s senior alumnus Audrie Hummelgaard, who will be celebrated near her 105th birthday. Memories focus on postwar life and changing technology from radios to televisions and gas mowers.
