Senior companion program helps frail elderly stay independent
In a nine county area of west-central Kansas the senior companion program links volunteers with low income seniors. Since starting at Fort Hays State University 26 years ago the federal funded effort has served hundreds this year, giving companions meals, rides, bill paying and moral support. Volunteers like Harold and Annabelle Woodford balance caregiving with helping others as Illness tightens their own lives. Rosebaugh and other companions provide companionship, prayers, and practical aid while aiming to expand across the state with extra funding.
