Kasten Family Builds a Century in Missouri Brick Making
Rudolph C. Kasten launched Kasten Clay Products in Jackson in 1895 after leaving a Uniontown apprenticeship. Now six direct descendants run Kasten Clay, Kasten Concrete, and Kasten Masonry Sales, with a distribution arm that spans at least 10 states. The firm, once modernized in 1927 with tunnel kilns, evolved through coal to gas firing, and in 1989 adopted sawdust firing. They own Carbondale Brick and Block and Innovative Energy Products, expanding from a single plant to multiple holdings.
