Flood warnings spread as Missouri River reaches a new all time peak in Nebraska and Iowa. Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri brace for rising waters after heavy rains. Crests threaten towns from Cambridge to St Joseph with roads and rails washed out and levees strained.
Engineers from Rowersock Mills and Power forecast Kaw river crest at 18 feet in Douglas County as Blue and Republican rivers rise at staggered times. Delaware river crest near Perry reached 18 feet, then fell to 12 feet. Lawrence saw 17.5 feet before subsiding. traffic on Highway 24 and the Union Pacific line not halted. Secretary of the Navy Forrestal announced plans to transfer newer U. S. naval vessels to South American nations as part of a western hemisphere defense policy. He indicated transfers would replace obsolete ships on roughly equal tonnage, aiding standardization of armaments and boosting protection of regional security and the Panama Canal.
The Missouri River broke the four mile long Mobile and Ohio fill near Glasgow, flooding about 5,000 acres. Motorcycle Patrolman Jack Cheek is suspended from the city police force for 60 days after a complaint by KU student taxi driver John Bergin that Cheek struck him and fractured his nose during an argument Sunday night. The clash occurred at a taxi stand on East Ninth street while Cheek investigated firecracker complaints. Bergin, a KU naval trainee, played football under Coach Henry Shenk.

The Atchison Globe funds a two day satesmanship course for employers and employees in Atchison today. Four two hour sessions run early morning and evening at the Masonic hall to avoid disrupting business. Five faculty members attend including Prof Elmer F Beth of Kansas University journalism with representatives from Chicago Illinois and Kansas City Missouri.
