June 24 Chihuahua City report that 17 American men of African descent captured at Carvizal are confined in the local penitentiary. No arrangements have been made to transfer them to custody or surrender to American authorities.

Old soldiers of the G A R will demonstrate on Massachusetts street at 7 30 this evening with a drum corps led by Grant Mull marching downtown followed by patriotic speeches. The event aims to boost local enlistment while officials note only about five percent of applicants are refused for physical reasons. Dr R E Barnes commented that rejections stem mainly from bodily ailments regardless of acceptance.

Brigadier General Martin hints rail lines prepared to entrain within hours, though no orders issued yet. Governor Capper plans to visit Fort Riley to review forces for potential deployment.
The Civic League suit for money against the Federation of Women's Clubs was continued by agreement to October 2. League members may file an amended bill of particulars by then. Carl R Brown arrived from Ann Arbor Michigan to join the headquarters company at Fort Riley. He is a University of Michigan graduate and former member of the First regiment band.
