Man convicted of manslaughter in fatal party shooting
A jury found Willie K. Franklin, 28, of Lawrence, guilty of involuntary manslaughter for recklessly causing the death of Lei-Ala Turner during a December 27 2017 shooting at August Place Apartments. He was also convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Inmate charged in deaths of KC deputies
A 30 year old inmate was charged with two counts of capital murder in the shooting deaths of two Kansas sheriff's deputies who were attempting to move him between a courthouse and jail. District Attorney Mark Dupree announced the charges. In Kansas, intentional, premeditated killing of a single law enforcement officer is eligible for the death penalty.
