Willie and Nancy Amison created a four year old garden featuring a pond, native stone edging, a hand placed rock berm, and a custom wooden fence. Willie built the pond and fence, hauled rich soil and manure, and installed raised beds to nurture ferns, hostas, daylilies and ornamental grasses. Nancy notes the couple miss their former shade and patio.
Sunflower Water Garden Society hosts an annual waterfront water garden tour from 9 to 4 on Saturday and 10 to 4 on June 30. The event highlights 16 sites from small pools to large waterfalls with gardens. tickets are $10 for both days and available at Water's Edge, Clinton Parkway Nursery and Garden Store, and Sunshine Garden Center.
Larry Redding creates a garden around a stone rimmed pond fed by a waterfall at 1219 W. 27th St. The yard hosts eight koi, goldfish, four shubunkins and a bio filtered system keeping 2500 gallons of dark water clear. A limestone bench, bog areas, a brick pond and lush plantings complete the scene under a maple canopy. The pond remains 40 inches deep and winter plants are sunk to deeper parts while the pump runs year round to prevent freezing.
