Preliminary hearing set in KU rape case in Douglas County

A 21 year old Leawood man charged with aggravated sexual battery and rape appeared in court after being jailed briefly on $5 000 bond. The alleged assaults occurred Oct 30 31 1999 at a Halloween party on Tennessee Street as two KU students nap rested in different rooms. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. July 26 before District Judge Michael Malone.

Body pulled from Kansas River under investigation

Leavenworth County detectives seek identify a naked woman found floating down the Kansas River near De Soto after being spotted by anglers. Authorities describe a Caucasian woman 18 to 30 with a 12 inch scar and a silver ring marked 925, and say the death is being treated as suspicious while they pursue missing person tips from Kansas City and St. Joseph areas.
