Harvesting Wheat In Douglas County Mixed But Picking Up Soon
Wheat has begun to move into Douglas County grain elevators at a slow pace while operators anticipate a rush by week’s end. Farmers report wide yield guesses from 16 to 40 bushels per acre and test weights from 57 to 83 pounds per bushel. Moisture levels range up to 19 percent, with some loads drier around 12.6 percent. County and regional harvests show slow progress due to rain and green spots, with Ness, Ellis, and Hays areas reporting delays and partial cuts. Officials note a possible misalignment with June 1 crop estimates due to freeze damage and expect regional harvest to extend into midweek or beyond.
