Frank Colby about 50 identified as the bandit who robbed Smith Brothers drug store Thursday night died today of self-inflicted bullet wounds after being surrounded by officers and vigilantes six miles north of Liberal. Former police chief C. J. Malone, deputized to arrest Colby, was wounded during the chase. Roy Smith of the drug firm accompanied them. Colby had been suspected in the April 17 kidnapping of T. J. Smith and may have stolen a car in Ponca City, Oklahoma. The car was found there after the hold up. Malone was expected to recover.
