Life of Sir Joshua Reynolds Portrait Painter of Devon
Sir Joshua Reynolds, born 1793 in Plympton near Plymouth, Devonshire, studied classics under his rector father who planned medicine for him. He pursued art after copying prints, trained in London, returned to Plymouth briefly, then moved to London’s St Martin’s Lane. He painted Commodore Keppel and built his fortune, later centered at Leicester Square. The text blends biographical detail with faded OCR mentions of Savings Bank notices and public interest.
