Topeka Driver Injured In Turnpike Collision Near Lecompton
A 58-year-old Topeka man Dennis K. Guist was injured when his 1997 Chrysler Cirrus swerved to miss a deer and struck a barrier on the Kansas Turnpike near the Lecompton interchange in the eastbound I 70 lanes. He wore a seat belt and was treated at the scene. In a separate incident on U S Highway 59 two people were extricated and taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for nonlife threatening injuries after a two car crash near County Road 460. Court records show Douglas County District Court Judge Michael Malone extended one year of probation for Joel Hernandez, convicted in 2010 for a 2009 hit and run that killed Rachel Leek, 20, as she rode a bicycle near 10th and Tennessee streets. Hernandez must pay restitution of about $16,000 remaining despite regular monthly payments.
