Endangered rhino at Kansas City Zoo nears birth this summer
At the Kansas City Zoo a female eastern black rhino named Louisa is in late pregnancy. Veterinarians report the fetus is moving with ample amniotic fluid and a successful birth would mark a major step in saving the subspecies. Zoo staff have spent years building the breeding program with animals from South Africa and other institutions. Louisa will stay on display on weekends until mid July, then rest before delivery expected this summer.
