Ethics panel blocks legislator from Johnson County judgeship
The Kansas ethics commission ruled Rep. Judy Macy cannot pursue a new Johnson County district judgeship since the Legislature created the post by funding it. The panel said a law bars elected officials from taking government jobs they helped create within a year of leaving office. Funding for three new judgeships was approved this session in Johnson, Douglas, and Shawnee counties.

Officials can access records on violent sex offenders
Kansas Attorney General Bob Stephan issued a non binding opinion stating that all prison records of individuals convicted of violent sex crimes must be shared with local prosecutors upon their release. The 1994 law enables civil commitment if a violent sexual offender is likely to reoffend, with DSPs able to hospitalize them indefinitely.

Abortion doctor aids drug study in Wichita and Pittsburgh
