Update on Quivira refuge water decline projections
A Kansas Geological Survey report warns stream flow into Quivira National Wildlife Refuge will keep dropping over the next two decades unless groundwater pumping or rainfall patterns change. The study ties reduced flows in Rattlesnake Creek to rising well counts, shifting the creek from a gaining to losing stream and threatening marsh water supplies at the 21,000 acre refuge in Stafford County.
