Rain drenched central Kansas yesterday with widespread totals near 1.5 inches at the Wichita station. Rivers rose above previous marks as ground stayed soaked, hindering roads and rail lines while wheat and corn fields faced renewed saturation and local flooding concerns persisted into the night.
Tornado rains and high winds hit Kansas and Missouri regions, delaying harvests and causing property damage. Kansas City area reports showers easing after a storm with lingering wind. Lawrence and Franklin counties note graduates in agronomy and related fields at Kansas State Agricultural College.
A city police headquarters will host a new automobiling school funded by a recently delivered 1911 Ford. The program depends on officers quickly learning to operate the vehicle and the garage project at city hall advances as engine work and quarrying proceeds. The initiative aims to cut response times, extend patrol reach, and align with a planned auto track for the fire department amidst ongoing city improvements.

Walter A. Martin and Edith Marie Thompson of Lawrence obtained a marriage license in probate court after a protracted process. Difficulties included un Witnessed parental consent and repeated errands in 87 degree heat before final consent was secured, allowing the license to be issued without further delay.

Holyfield said he cannot teach during the period due to duties as a missionary and hopes to vacation for a week or more later in the summer.
County Superintendent C R Hawley plans to preside over county meetings in Manhattan July 15 16 and will address the group on The School as a Community Center He also expects to attend the National Education Meeting in St Paul Minnesota July 4 to 7
Auditors from Caton Audit Company advance on a ten year city books check at the courthouse. Five years have been completed with rapid progress and a single clerical error of four dollars found so far. Commissioner Holyfield offered no further details on current work.
Ossining June 22 Peter Rebacci Italian and a member of the New York murder syndicate confessed to the murder of Tony Marro of White Plains. He stated he would expose the syndicate’s crimes. Governor Cox granted a six month reprieve.
Aviator Harry Atwood and his bride were rescued after their airboat, flying from Sandusky to Toledo, was overwhelmed by a thunderstorm over Lake Erie. They reached the mainland on a small island and later made it to Bono twelve miles east of Toledo. The airboat sustained no damage.
Ten inches of rainfall were recorded at Valley Falls and eight inches at Rock Creek, with extensive flooding across eastern Kansas. Valley Falls Union Pavilion track washed away, a half mile of Santa Fe connections crossed by workers wading through eighteen inches of water. hogs sheltered on a grandstand as fields, creeks, and rivers overflowed. Topeka says June is among the wettest in 26 years, with widespread washouts and rising water along Santa Fe lines from Atchison to Vermilion.
County Attorney J. S. Aduck and wife started a Studebaker six on a pleasure run to Kansas City Mo. Rain forced a halt after a brief start and the party decided to return later. Mrs Amick went home to open the office and Mr Amick planned to drive back when roads dried. The car was left with a stranger.
Php stockholders of Brehing and Hunting associations meet Wednesday to decide if a $3500 pumping plant will be installed to keep the lake full of water. A contractor, F. W. Swadley, narrowly avoided a crash when his auto skidded near Lake View as slippery roads followed Strain. Prof. EC Ross, sailing to the Philippine Islands, marked his birthday on May 23 but the ship dropped May 25 from the calendar for those aboard. the captain noted it was a first.
Many friends of J. M. Turney will be glad to know he is improving and is doing as well as could be expected.
A man named Silvers fled pursuit by Officer Vaughn across North Lawrence catching a Union Pacific train at 11. He dodged seize on foot and boarded just as the train pulled away, slipping through awaiting officers as the freight vanished from sight. Local rustling and theft rumors tied to the day’s events surround the chase and escape.
The Merchants' Association in Ottawa plans $800 yearly support with Winfield and other towns giving $900 and more. The First Regiment band seeks public help after state law blocks city-funded pay. The group may hold Woodland park shows for children, with potential Friday night concert, while Ottawa merchants report past annual $800-900 in local subscriptions and city tax support hoped to follow.
A mass temperance meeting bringing together all city churches is set for next Sunday evening at the Airdome marking the start of union services earlier than planned. The preliminary trial of Runyun was dismissed after a settlement between Aulyun and the parents of the girl, Goldias Lyon stating the man’s intentions were not bad though indiscretions occurred. Runyun was in custody briefly. the couple later spoke privately in the courtroom.
New York reports from London reveal the engagement of Miss Edythe Havemeyer daughter of the late Henry Havemeyer of New York and the Earl of Euston. The Earl is heir to the Burke of Grafton title. Miss Havemeyer has resided in England for years and previously caused a social stir by declaring independence from her family, establishing her own home in London with chaperons.
