A man described as a frequent courthouse visitor entered the federal Seattle courthouse lobby with an inactive hand grenade and shouted threats. Police exchanged gunfire after negotiations failed, the man fell, and bomb squad said the device was drilled out. Evacuation of the 23 story building followed as streets were closed. Witnesses noted the man wore a backpack later strapped to his chest and carried court papers. Authorities have not released the man’s identity pending medical examiner confirmation.
