Carranza forces show reluctance to engage after U S pressure as tensions rise over Mexican actions. War would be weighed but Mexico faces a tough path toward any large conflict.

County official Stevenson warns Douglas county residents taxes must be paid by June 30 to avoid extra charges. Tax collection shows Tuesday payments slightly lower than the previous day. Police court visits cited as enforcement for unpaid dog tax, with two individuals paying after summons reminders.

Mrs. Susan Bullene, longtime Lawrence resident and charitable figure, died aged about 80 after a life of community service. Born Lathrop Bullene in 1847, she and husband Mr. Bullene celebrated a golden wedding in 1907. Survived by four children Lip I Bullene, F C Gay, D Weaver, and H B Bullene, funeral at home will be private.
A Baltimore family of Mrs Wolfa has six sons serving in the U S military. Two are with the 12th Cavalry in Mexico, one is with the 19th Artillery in Vermont, and three belong to the Fourth Regular Maryland National Guard.
