UConn researchers study chicken talk for welfare gains
Doctoral candidate Ebenezer Otu-Nyarko and professor Michael Carre at the University of Connecticut record chicken vocalizations in a university poultry barn to decode meanings behind clucks. They aim to build a black box of chicken linguistics to detect stress, crowding, or illness and alert farmers, potentially influencing cage debates and animal welfare policy.
