Catholic bishops back abuse reforms and survey plan
Bishops and lay oversight board said reform plan stays on track after a candid session in St. Louis. They noted broad support for the board, with a California compliance compromise on confidentiality. Next, a 195 dioceses audit will assess reform adherence. Fugitive cosmetics heir returned from Mexico
FBI retrieved Andrew Luster from Mexico and flew him to California five months after his out of state conviction for drugging and raping three women. The 39 year old great grandson of Max Factor was jailed in Ventura County after a January verdict and 124 year sentence. He posted 1 million bail before vanishing prior to the verdict, and Mexican police captured him after a scuffle with bounty hunters in Puerto Vallarta. Prosecutors say the assaults occurred from 1996 to 2000 at his seaside home near Los Angeles, with GHB used to facilitate rapes, some taped on video.
